ABOUT THE ARTIST + CAUSE:
Written by the artist: My art practice is rooted in collage. I see the mediums of painting and sculpture as a copy/paste function. I extract images from their original context and juxtapose them with others in order to give them new meanings. I manipulate, transform and degrade them, sometimes until they become unrecognizable. Informed by the Zeitgeist, I find inspiration in web culture and clip arts as well as natural history or archeology books. The clash between these different sources creates a discomfort that activate the pictoral surface; from kitsch to grandiose, from banal to sacred.
I'm not a religious believer, but I grew up in a pious catholic environment. This upbringing tinted my practice and I've since incorporated religious lexicon into my art like, symmetry, monumental installation and symbolism. I also hide autobiographical anecdotes and stories into my works in order to enrich their narrative potential. This dance between personal and universal is the basis of my art practice.
