We Need Your Help.
You haven't been hacked. Art Lotto's just BACK.
Is it just us or are social media hacks rising lately?
If you can’t beat them, join them. At least that’s what we say when it comes to joining in on hacking this next round of lottos 😘 😘 😘
We took a break for January but we are back and bolder than ever with a whole new roundup of prizes, loot, and joy to bring in you in 2022. Consider us a year-round, cooler Santa type. We can’t wait to share more. But for now, congratulations to our prized player Esther Bruins from all the way back in 2021. Going On Lotto No.17
Artist: Jackson Darby
Cause: Wet’suwet’en Land Defenders
Lotto Drops: February 9th, 2022
Lotto Ends: February 28th, 2022
ABOUT THE PIECE:
Title: Prairie
Dimensions: 12” x 12”
Medium: Vinyl Record
Year: 2021
This two-sided 12” clear vinyl record contains an ambient composition meant to be listened to at a relatively low volume. While 1 side is a continuous long version of the
piece, the other side contains multiple grooves with different variations on the piece. This record is made to be playable at various speeds, forwards or backwards and has
no definitive beginning or end. The various streams of audio on the two sides ensure that there is no clear way of experiencing the piece in a certain A to B manner.
Furthermore, the transparent nature of the physical disc makes it difficult to tell which side is which ensuring that the listener must engage with the record and manufacture their own experience. It is recommended to sit next to your record player
and move the stylus to different parts of the disc while paying close attention to your sonic environment and how Prairie interacts, distracts or compliments it.
ABOUT THE ARTIST + CAUSE:
Jackson Darby is an active member of the music scene in Canada and abroad and a member of bands including Persons, NPNP and Freaky Boos. Jackson is an experienced producer, DJ, sound artist and engineer with a degree in Electroacoustics from Concordia University and training from Ulrich Sourisseau, the maker of the T560. He is also the founder of Personal Records; a label that creates sonic artifacts for left-field music projects as well as Cold Cache Records; an imprint that releases forward-thinking 12"s for club use.
GIDIMT’EN LEGAL DEFENSE FUND
Following the brutal and militarized raids on Gidimt’en Territory on November 18th and 19th, 2021, legal defense funds are once again needed to support Land Defenders and supporters facing charges, as well as the ongoing costs of camp.
Sleydo’ Molly Wickham, Chief Woos’ daughter Jocey, 2 members of the media, and other Indigenous land defenders were among the 32 people arrested at Coyote Camp and Gidimt'en Checkpoint during the two day siege. A convoy of dozens of RCMP officers escorting Coastal GasLink workers and heavy equipment, raided Coyote Camp, violently removing Wet’suwet’en people from their own lands. Those people need support now.
